Have you ever crashed while watching the medics deal with a punter’s protruding limb on the ski field? I haven’t either. But I do remember the hideous collies fracture my friend J Dog (Jeremy) was blessed with while shunting along a trail. The doctor skied up, casual as, a hit of nitrous for J Dog, one for the Doc and one for the road.  J Dog even waved a drooping goodbye.

Ski injuries are the passion of Dr Mike Langran, a Scottish Physician and mountain man. For eight years he has tended a great site called www.ski-injury.com . Not only has he put together a website on ski injuries and the ski industry in general, he also gives statistics lessons with easy to understand ski equations or ‘equaskis’ (my bad jokeski).

Mike has established himself as an authority on ski injuries and injury prevention. He works as a ski patroller on his local field and also a General Practitioner at the nearby village. He ‘boards’ on the International Society for Ski Safety or ISSS. Very fittingly, they have biannual meetings at great ski areas throughout the world. The next one is coming up in May in his home stomping ground, Avienmore. Check the conference out

www.ski-injury.com, apart from making me think about the time when my legs were bent over my head so I could see my board while lying on my stomach, it is a great resource and shows a level of commitment to combining a passion for snow with a medical career. Even if you hate skiing, like J Dog now does, check out the site for the great animated icon. So woolly hats off to Dr Mike Langran.
